Golden Harvest have invested €350,000 to build dedicated facilities to produce freshly made gluten free products at their factor in San Gwann.

The products will be in shops for the first time tomorrow.

Speaking during a visit by Health Parliamentary Secretary Chris Feane this afternoon, CEO Mark Aquilina said this was the first time that a local company was producing freshly baked gluten free goodsx.

The current range includes bread rolls, burger buns, vanilla and chocolate muffins and pizza bases.

The range will be expanded if there was demand.

Mr Fearne said that there were 1,200 people registered as coeliac in Malta and there could be more.

The government, he said, would soon be announcing a number of initiatives for these people and it was working closely with the Malta Coeliac Society to expand the range of products available locally.
