Watford: Oscar Garcia has stepped down as Watford boss following his recent health scare and has been replaced by Billy McKinlay. Spaniard Garcia, 41, spent a week in hospital earlier this month after suffering from chest pains and only returned to the Hornets training ground late last week. He watched Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Blackburn from the directors’ box but has now decided to hand over the reins to McKinlay.

Buffon: Veteran goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon is close to agreeing a new contract with Juventus until June 2017, Gazzetta dello Sport said yesterday. Buffon has been in talks with the Italy champions over a new deal for a number of weeks. However, the paper yesterday indicated that a deal is close to being formalised and that it will be a two-year extension.

Van Dijk: Police are investigating a complaint that Celtic defender Virgil van Dijk was subjected to racial abuse during his side’s win at St Mirren Park. The Dutchman reported an incident to police following Saturday’s Premiership match in Paisley, which Celtic won 2-1.

Friendly: The Sevens Stadium in Dubai will be the venue for the lucrative friendly between Real Madrid and Milan during the winter break on Dec. 30. Milan will be facing their ex-coach Carlo Ancelotti in a match organised by Emirates.

Serie B: Lanciano vs Bari 1-1.
