Transport Minister Joe Mizzi will be hosting a meeting in Malta with Cypriot Communications Minister Marios Demetriades and Greek Shipping Minister Miltiadis Varvitsiotis to discuss a common position on maritime affairs at international and regional level.

The three countries are the three main maritime nations in the European Union.

Today's meeting follows similar meetings in Greece and Cyprus.

The ministers will be discussing current maritime issues such as environment protection and green house emissions and the social dimension of shipping.

Mr Mizzi said it was s of utmost importance for the three countries to continue strengthening their cooperation in order to ensure that their interests were adequately represented and taken into account when policy and legislation were being formulated at both EU and international level.
