The Oiltanking Malta Offshore Race, covering approximately 95 nautical miles, is being held this weekend.

So far, nine boats have registered to take part in the race which sets off from the Tigné/Valletta Gunpost line today.

The fleet will sail to the St Paul’s Bay tuna pens en route to Gozo before heading down to Filfla, then back towards Gozo. The race will finish where it started.

The time limit for the first boat to finish is 11am tomorrow.

“The Oiltanking Malta Offshore Race is considered as the ideal shakedown for crews preparing for next month’s Rolex Middle Sea Race and promises to be a weekend of exciting sailing,” David Anastasi, Rear Commodore (Sailing) at the Royal Malta Yacht Club (RMYC), said in a statement.

Prize giving will take place at the RMYC premises in Ta’ Xbiex tomorrow.
