Why did the leader of the Opposition decide to spoil the unity which the whole Maltese population had witnessed for the first time after five decades by insisting that only Independence Day should be regarded as Malta’s national day?

Surely, he must have foreseen the reaction which his controversial claim would bring in its wake when he made that statement.

It seems to me that when he sees a crowd, Simon Busuttil allows himself to be influenced to such an extent that he starts making statements which can only lead to more division rather than unity among our people.

And doing this on the very same day when unity had been the hallmark of the independence festivities just goes to show his political immaturity.
