Philip Micallef has been appointed Air Malta’s chief executive officer with effect from October 13.

Chairwoman Maria Micallef said Mr Micallef had all the qualities and experience required to take this company forward. The board, she said, was also working hard to have a full management team in place in the coming weeks.

Mr Micallef was most recently the CEO of the Bermuda Communications Regulatory Authority.

In the past 30 years he occupied various management positions within many organisations in Malta and overseas, both in the private and public sector.

He said about his new position: “I am under no illusions about the challenges that lie ahead but I feel honoured and privileged to have been tasked with such an important role within a company that means so much to me and my country. I feel encouraged by the loyalty and resilience displayed by Air Malta's employees in recent years.”

Mr Micallef's appointment follows the resignation of Louis Giordimaina earlier this month. He headed the airline for just over eight months.
