Firefighters doused the flames at a North Texas house - and made sure its lone resident didn't croak.

The Fort Worth crew, sent to a blaze in Westworth Village, searched the house and found no humans while bringing the blaze under control.

Then the owners' daughter, Jamie Wilson, arrived and asked firefighters to look for a missing occupant - the family frog.

Intrepid firefighter Craig Tipton hopped back inside, located the unscathed pet amphibian in its glass container and reunited it with a relieved Ms Wilson.

Battalion chief Richard Harrison said firefighters have saved many dogs and cats, but it was the first time he recalled a frog rescue.

Authorities are investigating the fire that caused about $60,000 damage.
