Prime Minister Joseph Muscat addressed guests at a reception in New York in honour of Malta's 50th anniversary of independence and members in the United Nations.

He spoke about the country's successes over the years and said that, as an independent state and proud member of the European Union, Malta would remain a reliable and credible international partner of the United Nations."Faithful to its principles and true to its values, Malta will continue to play its part, regionally and more broadly, towards achieving a more prosperous, just and free world, where all people can live in peace and dignity," he said.
