I refer to the letter by Joseph Muscat, published on September 19, entitled ‘A disappointing night at the opera’. Allow me to tackle his remarks separately.

With regard to air conditioning, unfortunately, the system at St James Cavalier Centre for Creativity, in Valletta is currently out of order.

While Muscat points out that “this could have been solved in the summer months”, I am sure he appreciates the magnitude of such a project.

Work on the air-conditioning system started as soon as the fault emerged. However, we can confirm that the whole system needs to be replaced as it is now beyond repair.

After 14 years of constant and consistent operation, the system gave out and we are working around the clock until a suitable solution is found.

As he also kindly pointed out, we are making sure all our patrons are informed individually ahead of their arrival at St James Cavalier and are giving full refunds when we are are so requested.

With regard to the late starting of the screening and the subtitles, unfortunately, this was a technical error for which we apologise.

Live broadcasts (from which the screening was taken) are not always perfectly on time and we were not informed of this until it was too late.

The subtitles error is also to be regretted. Once again, it was caused by a technical fault, which we are looking into and doing our utmost to ensure will never happen again.
