Former Inter stalwart Ivan Ramiro Cordoba will be holding a three-day training camp for Maltese children in December.

The event is being co-ordinated by the newly-founded Inter Club PUPI Zanetti Malta and Luxol Sports Club.

As reported by Times of Malta last Saturday, Cordoba discussed the possibility of organ-ising a coaching clinic for kids in Malta, and possibly Gozo, during talks with officials of the Inter Club PUPI Zanetti Malta in Milan earlier this month.

“This training camp will give Maltese children the opportunity to be on the same pitch and learn from former Inter and Colombia player Ivan Ramiro Cordoba,” Inter Club PUPI Zanetti Malta said in a statement.

Cordoba’s upcoming visit follows that of former Inter captain Javier Zanetti who also conducted a successful three-day training camp at the Luxol Stadium in May-June in aid of his PUPI Foundation.

Widely regarded as one of the strongest defenders ever to don the Inter shirt, Cordoba played 324 official matches, scoring 15 goals.

He was also vice-captain of the team.

Cordoba, 38, was captain of Colombia for whom he made 73 appearances.

During his illustrious club career, Cordoba won a host of honours, including five Serie A titles, four Italian Cups, four Super Cups, one Champions League and the FIFA Club World Cup in 2010.

His only success with Colombia came in the 2001 Copa America when Cordoba scored the winning goal in the 1-0 victory over Mexico in the final.

“During his visit to Malta, Cordoba will be taking part in activities in aid of the Fundacion Columbia te quiere ver Onlus.

“This is a non-profit organisation founded by Cordoba himself with the aim of raising money to help people in need in his country, especially children,” the statement added.
