An agreement paving the way for the repatriation of migrants from Gambia was signed between Foreign Minister George Vella and the Gambian Foreign Affairs Minister Bala Garba Jahumpa.

The agreement was signed in New York, where the 60th UN general assembly is being held.

There are currently 80 Gambians in Malta who were not granted asylum.

The agreement was signed following a meeting between the Gambian minister and Prime Minister Joseph Muscat.

A similar agreement was signed with Nigeria in April.
