A group of 23 cyclists returned this afternoon from “one of the hardest challenges” as they completed a 10-day marathon across Japan as part of the 16th annual Life Cycle Challenge.

The cyclists, who were joined by a group of 13 backup crewmen, covered more than 2,000 kilometres, from Fukuoka in South Japan to Tokyo.

They were warmly welcomed by family and friends waited at the airport’s arrival lounge as they arrived visibly exhausted and tired out after the journey.

Life Cycle would this year donate €35,000 for a 24/7 dialysis machine.

The rest of the funds will go towards other forms of medical equipment but the cyclists hope it will be boosted in the future by the private sector.
