With reference to the item published in On the Dot about skips in Attard (‘Plain inaction’, September 15) GreenPak Coop Society Ltd, together with Attard local council, have for the past years endeavoured to increase public participation in recycling of dry recyclable waste with the ultimate aim of reaching the stipulated national targets.
This is being achieved through the door-to-door collection of recyclable waste (plastic, paper or cardboard and metal) on a weekly basis together with a fortnightly collection of glass.
In the coming days, GreenPak, in collaboration with council, will be carrying out a door-to-door information campaign to provide residents with information on how to separate their waste and the available recyclable waste related services found within the Attard area.
To complement this service GreenPak also provides the council with a number of bring-in sites for the public to deposit their dry recyclable waste.
Apart from regularly emptying these bins, GreenPak carries out methodical cleaning of the sites from illegally dumped non-recyclable waste.
Unfortunately, such unlawful action as reported in On the Dot is a common occurrence and has a negative impact on the achievements of those residents who are doing their civic duty and separating their waste for recycling.
