The utmost majority are in favour of animal rights and proper treatment. Animals in circuses are banned and a private zoo has received various warnings. Thus, it seems that the proper actions are being taken.

However, are these actions sincere or just a whitewash?

How many dogs are mistreated, kept chained in direct sunlight and in such a way that they can hardly move?

Do battery hens count or are these ignored as being “chicken-brained”? Fowls and birds do not seem to have any rights whatsoever. Why must songbirds be kept in small cages (in direct sunlight) in which they cannot move properly?

The private zoo was reprimanded due to lack of adequate space for the animals, therefore, by the same principle, why are birds not similarly safeguarded?

What space in conjunction with body mass and wing span must any bird have?

Finally, hunters and trappers have rights. How about birdwatchers? Why is it nearly impossible in these islands for a family, especially with small children, to enjoy nature and watch birds in their natural habitat?

This could be done at least on alternative Sundays and some school holidays, on a share and share alike approach. In itself, it would be a good PR exercise by the hunting lobby to allow the odd day for bird watchers.

Oops, this is a hot topic and must not be debated.
