Pembroke 1
Fgura 1

Pembroke needed a late goal by substitute Lucky Omeruo to grind out a point against a ten-man Fgura side at the Luxol Stadium yesterday.

Fgura came agonisingly close to emerge as winners in a clash between the newly-promoted sides as they soaked up Pembroke’s pressure only to concede a late equaliser.

Fgura took the lead after just four minutes when Ryan Previ was released by Philip Chircop and he hit home from just inside the area.

Ramon Zammit’s side continued to play the better football and on 18 minutes Roland Emeka’s shot finished just wide.

Pembroke finally threatened midway through the half when Demba Toure’s header was pushed away by Ryan Marmara and minutes later Ariel Laudisi’s header hit the side-netting.

On 50 minutes Marmara was at his best to keep out Toure’s header.

Fgura’s hopes suffered a blow on 72 minutes when Joseph Farrugia was dismissed for a second bookable offence.

Here Pembroke stepped up their efforts and Toure was again close only to see his header finish just wide.

At the other end, Pembroke goalkeeper Andrea Cassar was alert to keep out Abeeb Williams’s effort.

Two minutes from time, Pembroke drew level when Omeruo latched onto Azzopardi’s pass and hit past Marmara.
