Despite what its name may suggest, the iKettle isn’t part of Apple’s drive to take over your life. Rather, it’s a British invention that continues the long tradition of making a cup of tea as convenient as possible.

The Wi-Fi enabled kettle lets you control it from an Android or Apple smartphone app. At first glance, this seems a bit silly. Yet work with it for a little while and you suddenly see its benefits.

The app allows you to set an alarm which automatically starts the kettle. You can also keep the water at optimum temperature for up to 30 minutes, invite friends around for a cup of tea through the app or automatically have the kettle start boiling the minute you walk through your front door.

Home automation is a big movement and the iKettle is a natural progression of that. Admittedly, filling and boiling a kettle doesn’t take a lot of effort, but it’s one of those domestic chores you no longer have to think about.

The iKettle has a certain appeal in the home environment as it makes life just a little simpler. However, install one at the office, connect it to the network and give everyone the app and life gets simpler still.

One of the more useful features of the iKettle is multiple temperature settings. Water for tea needs to be hotter than that for coffee while water for green tea needs to be cooler than either for them.

The kettle has four temperature settings for optimum performance and can ensure no more bitter tea or coffee from overheated water.

If you’re serious about your hot drinks, that’s a significant benefit.
