Former President and Prime Minister Eddie Fenech Adami speaks about the role he played in campaigning for Malta's independence in 1964 in an interview published today to mark the 50the anniversary since the island's split from Britain.

Dr Fenech Adami recalls the way he transformed his Fiat 500 to get his message across in 1964, determined that independence was the key to political and social development.

The 80-year-old political icon also fields questions whether EU membership has eaten away at Malta's independence.
