Donbass Arena: Shakhtar Donetsk’s Donbass Arena has been hit by shelling despite a ceasefire agreed between Ukraine government forces and Russian-backed separatists, the club said. “On September 19 two explosions sounded off in immediate proximity to Donbass Arena. The North-Eastern side of the facade was damaged as a result of it. Donbass Arena personnel were evacuated into a safe place. No one was hurt,” Shakhtar said. Donetsk, a major industrial city, has become a stronghold of pro-Russian separatists who are fighting army forces controlled by the government.

Ebola: Bans on Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone hosting any international football because of fears of spreading Ebola were kept in place by the Confederation of African Football, its executive committee decided yesterday. The three west African countries – at the epicentre of the outbreak of the highly contagious disease – had originally been banned from hosting all games until mid-September but has now been extended indefinitely. It means Guinea and Sierra Leone must again move scheduled African Nations Cup qualifiers to alternate venues next month.
