Yuri de Jesus Messias was the toast of Msida yesterday as the Brazilian striker netted a late winner that earned his team a dramatic win that put them on top of Division One .

The Amateurs will feel disappointed with the final outcome as they were the better team but in football it’s the goals that count and Msida made the most of their chances to bag their second successive win.

Melita created two scoring chances in the space of a minute.

On 24 minutes Kurt Coleiro saw his low shot pushed away by Kurt Rizzo while a minute later Jean Pierre Attard fired wide.

Msida’s first chance came on 52 minutes.

Marcelo Ferreira Da Costa exchanged the ball with Messias but the Msida forward fired wide.

Melita remained the brighter side and took the lead on 62 minutes.

Tobias Terpougoff picked Kurt Coleiro who headed home from close range.

Two minutes later Luke Sammut almost made it 2-0 but he drove wide from inside the area.

Msida drew level on 76 minutes when substitute Wayne Sciberras diverted the ball past Schranz before Messias hit the winner on 87 minutes with a low shot.
