A number of University student organisations will set up stands along Republic Street during Science in the City on Friday.

Medical and health students will run free health checks for adults and the elderly, including the testing of blood pressure, blood glucose levels and body mass index (BMI), food screening, and posture and cancer advice.

Dental students will organise activities, experiments and games and offer advice on oral health. Health students will be testing blood glucose levels and blood pressure.

Computer science students will be holding a History of Computing exhibition with Vintage Computer Club Malta at La Vallette Band Club, and will also feature Spheros – the electric balls. A treasure hunt with several educational fun facts distributed in Republic Street will be organised.

Techsercise, the winners of this year’s Imagine cup, a programming competition hosted by Microsoft Malta, will be showcasing their app which consists of collecting points by doing exercises and exchanging those points for gifts.

Throughout the event, around 50 S-Cubed volunteers will be carrying out science experiments and show people how they can do them themselves.

Engineering students will be exhibiting robots, flying robots and electrical components, explaining the physics behind the mechanics.

At City Gate, a stand will explore the similarities and intersections between art, entertainment and science through high-energy and fast-paced ex­peri­ments, laughter, fun and audience involvement.
