A second coaching diploma course is being organised by Multiplex Coaching Ltd, an organisational development firm. The firm forms part of the South Africa-based Omnicor and the course starts on October 9.

The diploma is based on the Multiplex coaching framework, an approach which lends itself to concepts that are well-known in organisational psychology and Gestalt theory.

The course started out as a performance coaching model 16 years ago, targeting coaches of clients with work-related development needs. The model is now used by both business and life coaches.

Life coaching focuses on the personal life and fulfilment of individuals, enabling achievement of personal goals. Life coaching touches on all facets of everyday lives from weight loss to relationships, career choices, enhancing parental skills and work dissatisfaction.

Business (or executive) coaching, meanwhile, is driven by specific organisational and business goals, which usually take place at work and are paid for by the organisation. It enables individuals and teams to accomplish and maintain performance that is linked to the organisation’s needs, strategy and objectives and improves a company’s most valuable asset – its employees.

The diploma is suitable for people who would like to build their own practice as business and/or life coaches, or who would like to join a company that offers coaching to corporate clients or for individuals who are required to coach at work.

The diploma, a six-month part-time programme, combines face-to-face and online learning.

Participants attend two three-day modules, complete two online learning units and a variety of assignments, most of which incorporate supervised coaching practice.

The diploma is expected to be accredited by the European and Mentoring Coaching Council (EMCC) soon and upon completion, students can accredit themselves at practitioner level once they have accumulated the required number of hours.
