Gżira United 0
Rabat Ajax 0

Gżira dropped their first points of the season while Rabat claimed their first after featuring in a goalless draw yesterday.

The Maroons went close on 15 minutes when Ryan Dalli ran on to a Yanis Tonna through-pass but Jonathan Azzopardi blocked the Gżira striker’s run.

In Rabat’s first attempt at goal, David Azzopardi’s screamer was brilliantly saved by Anthony Curmi.
Gżira retained an edge. In the best move of the first half, Dalli hit wide after Steve Meilak’s cross was nodded on by Moises Avila Perez.

Four minutes before the break, Avila Perez’s free-kick finished just wide while, at the other end, Curmi made another fine save from Adam Smeir’s set-piece drive.
The second half started with Rabat’s Darren Galea trying his luck from an acute angle but his effort was saved by the Gżira custodian.

On 58 minutes, substitute Anthony Ewurum’s header was kept out by the Rabat keeper.
Gżira continued to push forward. Josef Mifsud’s header finished high and three minutes later, Rabat’s Zach Tanti headed the ball off the line from Gabriel Aquilina’s cross.

Gżira came close to grabbing a late winner. Aquilina released Ewurum but the Nigerian was foiled by Azzopardi.
