Tarxien Rainbows vs Naxxar Lions (today at 16.00, National Stadium).

Tarxien Rainbows and Naxxar Lions are pursuing their first league win of the season.

The two teams experienced contrasting fortunes last weekend as Tarxien threw away a two-goal lead in a 3-3 draw with Żebbuġ while Naxxar struck a last-gasp equaliser against rivals Mosta.

Clive Mizzi, the Tarxien coach, can almost bank on a full squad with the only doubt being Brazilian winger Jorge who is still struggling with a muscle injury.

The Lions, under the charge of Winston Muscat, are still without defender Kurt Drago, midfielder David Fenech and striker Sidney Nery Da Silva, all injured.

Qormi vs Birkirkara (today at 18.00, National Stadium).

Birkirkara will be looking to make amends for their unexpected 3-2 defeat to Balzan.

Coach Paul Zammit will surely demand an improved display from his team after Birkirkara lacked their usual fluidity against the industrious Balzan.

Zammit is short of options in midfield as captain Gareth Sciberras is still in convalescence.

Edmond Agius is close to completing his recovery from the hamstring injury he suffered in the Super Cup win over Valletta.

Paul Fenech, another key midfielder, is doubtful with an adductor strain.

Qormi come into the match on the back of a lame showing in a goalless draw against Sliema.

Coach Josef Mansueto is likely to be without Argentine defender Mauricio Mazzetti, who is still recovering from a groin injury, while left-back Emerson Vella is doubtful due to a muscle strain.

Floriana vs Żebbuġ Rangers (today at 16.00, Tedesco Stadium).

Floriana will be determined to make it two wins in a row when they take on newly-promoted Żebbuġ Rangers.

The Greens are in high spirits after coming from a goal down to beat Pietà Hotspurs in their last outing.

Coach Giovanni Tedesco has no injury worries. He is widely expected to restore Matteo Piciollo to the first team after the Italian striker, on as a second-half substitute, scored a brace against the Hotspurs.

Żebbuġ also showed character after netting two late goals against Tarxien Rainbows to gain their first point of the season.

Coach Jesmond Zammit has a full squad at his disposal.

Hibernians vs Pietà Hotspurs (today at 18.15, Tedesco Stadium).

Leaders Hibernians will fancy their chances of maintaining their perfect start when they take on lowly Pietà Hotspurs this evening.

The Paolites are on a roll as Sunday’s 2-1 victory over Valletta left them top of the standings with maximum points from four matches.

In midweek, they received another boost after prolific striker Edison Luis ‘Tarabai’ agreed a new contract with the club.

Branko Nisevic, the Hibs coach, is concerned about the fitness of Brazilian winger Marcelo Dias who is hampered by a niggling back injury.

The Hotspurs are expected to give a debut to new signing Nikola Tasic. The Serbian midfielder is no stranger to the Premier League after playing for Balzan a few seasons ago.

Noel Coleiro is still without striker Malcolm Licari, who has a knee problem, while Serbian forward Nikola Pepelcevic has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a cruciate injury.

Mosta vs Balzan (tomorrow at 16.00, National Stadium).

This promises to be an intriguing clash as Mosta and Balzan have made a bright start to the season.

They are joint second on 10 points and still unbeaten after four games.

Balzan are in buoyant mood after their 3-2 victory over Birkirkara.

Italian striker Gianmarco Piccioni is out after being handed a one-match ban for making a gesture towards the Birkirkara fans at the end of last weekend’s match.

Otherwise, coach Oliver Spiteri has no selection problems.

Mosta were on the verge of extending their winning start only to be pegged back in the dying stages of their derby against Naxxar Lions.

Omar Borg will miss tomorrow’s match after aggravating a groin injury in last weekend’s match. The veteran goalkeeper has travelled to Portugal to undergo surgery.

Mosta coach Enrico Piccioni must now decide whether to stick with Kyle Gerada in goal or give a debut to Mexican Marcos Bernal Berlanga.
