Teenage Pakistani activist Malala Yousafzai, who was shot in the head by the Taliban in 2012 and survived, has been invited to spread her love for education among Maltese children. The invitation was extended to the 17-year-old, who believes education is the key to a peaceful world, by President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca during a visit to Birmingham, UK, where the teenager is studying.

The Office of the President said it was interested in embarking on an education-based project with Malala as part of her international campaign in favour of education. Malala believes education is the only way to stop war and terrorism and her dream is to see it being offered to the thousands of children now deprived of it.

She praised Ms Coleiro Preca for the role she played as a woman in politics, which could be an inspiration to other women and help make changes where necessary. Malala has written an autobiography, I Am Malala: The Girl Who Stood Up for Education and Was Shot by the Taliban, which was released in October 2013.
