Edison Luis dos Santos ‘Tarabai’ has committed his future to Hibernians after signing a new two-year deal with the early BOV Premier League pace-setters.

Edison, who rejoined the Paolites in January 2013 after a short and rather turbulent stint with Hungarian club Kecskemeti, is widely regarded as one of the most prolific strikers in Maltese football.

The diminutive forward has been a key figure in Hibs’ perfect start to the season, scoring three goals in four league games.

Sources have told Times of Malta that, over the past few weeks, Edison received a lucrative offer to join a club in Oman.

Although Hibs were unders-tandably reluctant to let one of their prized assets leave, they agreed to discuss Edison’s potential transfer with his suitors but failed to agree a deal.

Faced with this scenario, the Paolites acted swiftly to tie Edison to a new contract that will keep him at the club until the end of season 2016/17.

It is believed that Jeffrey Farrugia, Hibs’ team manager, played a very important role in persuading Edison to agree a new deal.

The 28-year-old Edison, who finished joint top scorer of the Premier League last season with 21 goals, has struck up a formidable partnership with fellow Brazilian Jorginho who signed for Hibs this summer after ending his spell with Qormi.

Meanwhile, Sliema Wanderers have continued to strengthen their squad with the capture of Fabio Mangiacasale. The Italian winger, 27, is expected to make his debut in Sunday’s clash with Valletta.

The Blues have also handed a contract to Federico Giulitti.
