I would like to express my thoughts on the state of some of the roads. May I also congratulate and thank the previous and present ministers of transport, for both have contributed to-wards the health and economy of the islands.

I am a tourist who has spent many happy years on these wonderful islands. I feel I must write about the advantages that the road system gives to the nation

What advantages, you may ask. I have considered how the rutted roads on some parts of the island provide a healthy all over body massage. This is of considerable importance to the Ministry of Health: it helps to keep bodies nice and supple, thereby improving the health of the nation.

Important as this is, it is not the major benefit that “roller coaster” roads provide; this is to the economy. Think of all the extra mechanics who are employed to repair the damaged vehicles that are affected by the sometimes cavernous potholes, thereby adding to the numbers of the gainfully employed.

I admit that on this visit my experience of the roads has been limited to the area from St Paul’s Bay to the outskirts of Mellieħa.

I have noticed, in correspondence to this newspaper, that the same benefits of the “rutted roads” are available in many parts of the island.
