One of the three teams promoted to the Premier League are Leicester City, winners of the Championship last season.

The Foxes are managed by Nigel Pearson who is in his second spell in charge of the club who play their home games at the King Power Stadium.

Pearson, who also managed the Blues between 2008 and 2010, has great respect for David Nugent.

The English striker says he has a point to prove on his return to the elite stage and intends to prove his worth.

The 29-year-old, a prolific scorer in the Championship, failed to impress in the top flight during previous spells at Portsmouth and Burnley.

In an interview with the BBC, Nugent said: “I have got a lot of people to prove wrong but I think I can jump up to this level, I can go to the Premier League and score the goals that we need to stay up.

“Hopefully if I score goals I can renegotiate a contract and stay here longer because I really love it here.

“It didn’t go well for me at Portsmouth after a big-money move, but sometimes you are not meant to join clubs and I don’t think Portsmouth was for me.

“I moved to Burnley, had a year in the Premier League and played 30 games. I got relegated, but the experience I got there was unbelievable and I know what I am expecting now.”

Nugent appeared only once for his country, in 2007, but played 14 times for the Under-21 side.

Nugent was born in Huyton, Merseyside on May 2, 1985.

After playing for Liverpool and Bury as a youth, Nugent signed professional for the latter in 2002.

Three years later, he moved to Preston. After two seasons with the Lilywhites, he joined Ports-mouth in the Premier League. A two-year loan spell with Burnley followed and, in 2011, he signed for Leicester City.

A rare high point for Nugent during his short stint with Portsmouth came in 2008 when he came on as a substitute for John Utaka in the last 20 minutes of the FA Cup final at Wembley.

Portsmouth beat Cardiff 1-0 thanks to a goal from Nwankwo Kanu.

On September 23, 2012, Nugent scored his first career hat-trick in a 3-1 win against Hull City at the King Power Stadium.

He finished season 2012-13 as Leicester’s top marksman for the second season running.

On February 22, 2014, Nugent grabbed his 50th league goal for Leicester City against Ipswich Town.

During 2013-14, he scored 20 league goals and provided 12 assists as the Foxes secured promotion to the Premier League as winners of the Championship.

On July 9, Nugent signed a new two-year contract with Leicester City.

Nugent made his first and only appearance for England in a Euro 2008 qualifier against Andorra on March 27. 2007.

He marked his debut by scoring the last goal, three minutes into stoppage time, in a 3-0 win, tapping a goalbound shot from Jermain Defoe as the ball was about to cross the line.
