Nottingham: The city has no presence in the Premier League but Nottingham has been voted England’s 2015 City of Football. Nottingham beat off Manchester and Portsmouth to earn the title, a reward for its efforts to get more people playing the game in the East Midlands city.

Alves: Barcelona should have right-back Dani Alves back for tonight’s Champions League Group F opener against Cypriot side APOEL, coach Luis Enrique said. Brazil international Alves has yet to be given the all-clear by club medical staff due to a sore knee and missed Saturday’s 2-0 La Liga win at home to Athletic Bilbao.

Amat: Swansea City central defender Jordi Amat will be out of action for six weeks due to a knee injury, the Premier League club said on their website. The 22-year-old Spaniard was substituted at half-time during the 4-2 defeat at Chelsea on Saturday. Amat started all four Premier League games this season as Swansea moved up to third place in the table.

Berardi: Sassuolo forward Domenico Berardi has been banned for three Serie A games for elbowing Inter defender Juan Jesus during his team’s 7-0 defeat at San Siro on Sunday. Berardi, who plays on loan at Sassuolo from Juventus, was shown a straight record for the action. The 20-year-old will miss the league games against Sampdoria, Fiorentina and Napoli but will be available for selection for Sassuolo’s away game at Lazio on October 5.

Bayern: Bayern Munich will be without experienced Franck Ribery when they meet Manchester City in their Champions League Group E opener today, coach Pep Guardiola said. Ribery made his Bundesliga season debut on Saturday following weeks out with a knee injury, making a short appearance as a substitute and scoring in a 2-0 win over VfB Stuttgart. “He is not here, he is at home,” Guardiola told reporters when asked about Ribery’s condition. “He went to the doctor and today they told me he cannot play.”
