A woman was yesterday caught trying to smuggle a packet believed to contain heroin into prison by carrying it in her mouth.

Sources said the woman, whose boyfriend is an inmate, immediately raised suspicions because of the way she was talking.

She was arrested and taken into custody and her boyfriend was transferred to another division after being subjected to a urine test. Urine test samples were also taken from other prisoners in the same division. Sources said the sachet did not contain much of the drug but was enough for two doses.

In a statement, the Home Affairs Ministry said the incident took place at around 10.30am and showed how seriously the issue of drugs in prison was being taken.

The ministry said more sniffer dogs were being trained for service at the prison to stamp out drug abuse.
