Snooker: Stuart Bingham won the second world ranking title of his career by thrashing Mark Allen 10-3 in the final of the Shanghai Masters, yesterday. Bingham outplayed his opponent in a one-sided final as Allen failed to reproduce the form which saw him beat Mark Selby in the semi-finals. World number 11 Bingham won five consecutive frames from 5-3 as he coasted to the £85,000 top prize.

Rallying: World champion Sebastien Ogier took another big step towards retaining his title when he won the Australian round of the world rally championship in the seaside resort of Coffs Harbour for the second year in a row yesterday. The 30-year-old held off Volkswagen team-mate Jari-Matti Latvala by 6.8 seconds to extend his lead over the Finn in the title race to 50 points with only 75, plus bonuses, up for grabs over the last three rounds. It was the sixth victory of the season and the 22nd of Ogier’s career.

Tennis: German top seed Sabine Lisicki recovered from a woeful start to beat Czech Karolina Pliskova 7-5 6-3 in the final of the WTA Hong Kong Open for her first title in more than three years. The world number 31 had received a wild card to play in the $250,000 tournament.

Cycling: Alberto Contador wrapped up his third Tour of Spain triumph when he comfortably held on to his overall lead in the 21st and final stage time trial in a rain-soaked Santiago de Compostela yesterday. Contador effectively secured victory when he left closest rival Chris Froome trailing to win Saturday’s penultimate stage.
