A constable was slightly injured when he attempted to stop a group of Valletta Supporters from climbing over a gate into a restricted area of the national stadium during yesterday's premier league football match between Valletta and Hibernians, the police said.

The injured police officer, who was with a colleague, was assaulted and subject to a tirade of abuse while trying to control the rowdy crowd.

A supporter, 35, has been arrested.
