Augustinian priest Mario Abela has led a group of nine volunteers on a charitable mission in Kenya.

Within three weeks, the group had already helped raise a large-size chapel in one of the outstations of St Monica parish Kisumu, run by the Augustinians. The group also helped raise another large chapel in one of the outstations of the Good Shepherd Ishiara parish. Before the chapel was built, people were worshipping under a tree.

The group also managed to repaint classrooms of the Sacred Heart primary school in Baba dogo, Nairobi, and distribute food to the poor, among many other charitable activities.

Asked how the group managed to achieve so much in such a short time, team leader Abela said: “Teamwork helped us achieve a lot.”

The Maltese volunteers belonged to different professions, all united for a common goal – a show of Augustinian spirituality in action.
