Malta’s bishops yesterday urged the faithful to unite in prayer so that the Church may respond to the challenges faced by modern-day families.

A statement by Archbishop Paul Cremona, Gozo Bishop Mario Grech and Auxiliary Bishop Charles Scicluna said that bishops from all over the world would be meeting in Rome between October 5 and 19 for the Extraordinary Synod on ‘Pastoral challenges for the family in the context of evangelisation’.

“This will be a defining moment for the whole Church and for this reason, every believer is called to participate and share in this event. Above all, this meeting of the bishops will be a profound moment of prayer.

“In preparation for this Synod, Pope Francis is encouraging all Christians from around the world to unite together with one heart in a moment of prayer on Sunday, September 28,” the bishops said.
