The editorial ‘Intimidation by the ALE?’ (The Sunday Times of Malta, September 7) hit the proverbial nail on the head. It exposed the pitiful state our country has fallen into.

We have now come to the point where we cannot even rescue an injured bird because the same administrative unit which should be devoting its energy to stem illegal hunting is being utilised to hound anyone trying to rush an injured bird to the vet.

So while the government on the one hand tries to impress us with proposals aimed at improving animal rights, on the other hand it sits back while defenders of the environment and its fauna, like Birdlife, are harassed and intimidated up to a point where they become neutralised.

This two-faced approach would make Janus green with envy.
