As the Scottish independence referendum approaches, I have been frequently asked my thoughts regarding the outcome.
I was born in Scotland and lived there for almost 40 years. I regard myself as a patriotic Scot who supports Scotland in all its activities and ventures, home and overseas.
However, having been associated with Malta for around 15 years and a resident for 10 years, I also have a strong affiliation here.
Scotland is already self-supporting in various ways; it has its own Parliament, law courts, education system, care for the elderly and industry. Scottish banks still operate using their own notes as well as the general UK currency.
The Scottish people are very capable of going alone should the referendum vote swing in favour of independence. I believe the result will be extremely close.
