The 1565 and 1943 sieges of Malta were commemorated last Sunday in Xagħra. A thanksgiving Mass led by Xagħra archpriest Carmelo Refalo was followed by speeches by mayor Joe Cordina and Daphne Caruana, curator at the Ġgantija Temples.

There was also a performance by the Malta Police Band, a re-enactment of the 1814 plague and the laying of wreaths. The event was organised by the Xagħra parish in conjunction with the local council.
