Yepes: Colombia’s 2014 World Cup captain Mario Yepes is set to return to Argentina to sign for San Lorenzo, the South American champions said. The 38-year-old central defender, who led Colombia to the World Cup quarter-finals, played for River Plate from 1999-2002 before embarking on an European career.

Beattie: Accrington have an-nounced manager James Beattie has surprisingly left the club. The former Everton and Southampton striker, who earned five England caps during his career, took his first job in management at the Store First Stadium in May 2013. Despite failing to win any of his first 12 league games in charge of Stanley, he earned acclaim for keeping the club in the Football League last season.

Under-21: England have been drawn against Croatia in the qualifying play-offs for next year’s U-21 Championship finals in the Czech Republic. Gareth Southgate’s side will meet the Croatians over two legs between October 8 and October 14. Holders Spain have been drawn against Serbia, while the other five play-off ties are Slovakia vs Italy, France vs Sweden, Denmark vs Iceland, Holland vs Portugal and Ukraine vs Germany. The finals will take place between June 17 and June 30.

Rangers: Rangers have raised £3.13 million in their latest share offering – falling short of their target. The club had hoped to bring in just under £4 million when they launched the issue two weeks ago. Rangers revealed that several plc directors had increased their share, most significantly James Easdale, who purchased 215,606 of the 20p shares.

Mariga: McDonald Mariga will be playing for Parma again after signing a one-year contract, his fourth deal with the same club. The midfielder was available on a free transfer having been released by Inter at the end of last season. The 27-year-old Kenya international originally joined Parma in 2007 after moving on loan from Inter.
