The Malta women’s national team conceded a heavy 8-0 defeat to Denmark in a World Cup qualifier at the Jokri Park stadium, in Velje, yesterday.

Pierre Brincat’s girls were no match to the superior Danes who had all but wrapped up victory by the end of first half after opening a five-goal lead.

Skipper Line Roddick and striking duo Johanna Rasmussen and Nadia Nadim all bagged up a brace with the other goals for the hosts coming from Simone Sorensen and Mariann Knudsen.

With this win, the Danes strengthened their grip on second place in Group Three on 18 points while Malta remained bottom with no points from nine matches.

Malta end their commitments next Wednesday when they host group leaders Switzerland at the Tedesco Stadium.
