A series of two-hour seminars entitled ‘Shattered Soul – Healing the Spirit after Abuse’, will be held from Tuesday to Thursday at St Monica School, Birkirkara, and on Friday and Saturday at the Seminary in Victoria.

They will be conducted by US psychotherapists Patrick Fleming and Sue Lauber Fleming, who have a long experience helping victims of abuse as well as perpetrators, in particular clerical abusers.

The seminars are being organised by the Secretariat for Catholic Education’s Church Schools Spiritual Development Unit in conjunction with the Secretariat for the Clergy and the diocese’s spiritual counsellors coordinator.

The seminar’s experiential presentation will help participants learn how to identify their clients’ spiritual wounds and provide a roadmap for healing and transforming this soul trauma through a spiritual healing process.

The seminars are open to the public, but are particularly aimed at teachers, youth workers, social workers, counsellors, psychologists and therapists. Abuse victims are welcome to request private meetings with the speakers.

On Tuesday there will be two seminars, at 9.30am for state school therapists, counsellors, teachers and staff; and at 7pm for Church and independent school therapists, counsellors, teachers and staff.

On Wednesday at 10.30am there will be a seminar for clergy, religious and consecrated people, while on Thursday at 7pm there will be one for therapists, counsellors and the public.

On Friday at 7pm the seminar will be for therapists, counsellors, teachers, pastoral and youth workers and the public while on Saturday at 9am there will be one for Gozitan clergy, religious and consecrated people.

Participants are free to choose any seminar that suits their needs.

Participation is free but donations will be appreciated.
