The Confucius Institute (CI) at the University of Malta will hold a series of activities in De Vallette Square, Valletta, on September 27 from 10am to 2pm as a part of a global celebration taking place in similar institutes all over the world.

The activities will consist of five sessions held in tents and a photo exhibition set up in collaboration with the Malta-China Friendship Society.

CI is an international educational, non-profit institute, aimed at teaching the Chinese language and introducing the Chinese culture abroad. The world’s first CI was set up in Seoul, South Korea in 2004. In Malta, the CI was established in 2009 through a collaboration between the University of Malta and Xiamen University, China, with the support of the Confucius Institute headquarters in Beijing.

As this year marks the institute’s 10th anniversary, it was decided that all CIs worldwide would hold the first Confucius Institute Day on September 27, the birthday of China’s ancient thinker and educator, Confucius.
