The public garden at City Gate ditch should not be shelved, Alternattiva Demokratika appealed this morning.

Infrastructure spokesman Ralph Cassar said the party was contacted by several people who expressed disappointment that the originally planned garden might be instead developed into parking spaces.

In a statement, he said Valletta was accessible by public transport and the service should be increased if need be rather than facilitate the continuation of the car invasion taking place in the city.

If the garden, which was among the most beautiful aspects of the City Gate project, was not developed, it would mean that the people were being put aside with priority being given to cars instead.

AD chairman Arnold Cassola said it seemed the government was allergic to public gardens as even garden at Ta’ Xbiex was seemed to be earmarked for development.
