NAXXAR LIONS-1, MOSTA-1
Naxxar Lions grabbed a stoppage-time equaliser to hold bitter rivals Mosta to a 1-1 draw in today's derby.
Mosta looked to be heading towards victory after Daniel Mariano Bueno put them ahead early in the second half but the resilient Naxxar saved a point at the death thanks to substitute Terence Vella.
Eight minutes into the game, Naxxar Lions goalkeeper Julian Azzopardi stopperd a header from Kaljevic from Mano Micallef's cross.
The Montenegrin striker then lifted the ball over the bar from point blank after capitalising on a loose ball inside the box following Pedrinho's right-wing corner.
On 16 minutes, Naxxar striker Gilmar spotted Omar Borg out of position but his chip from outside the box was high.
The Mosta goalkeeper had to dash off the line to block Gilmar's run but that proved to be his last contribution as Borg left the field moments laters after picking up an injury. He was replaced by Kyle Gerada.
Close to the half-hour mark, Gerada made his first save, blocking a central header from Gueye who had risen to meet Emenike's cross.
At the other end, Azzopardi pushed away Pedrinho's cross-shot from a free-kick.
Five minutes from half-time, David Alejandro Reano's cross from free-kick was headed goalwards by Gilmar but Gerada saved.
Mosta's best chance came in first-half stoppage time.
Pedrinho lofted the ball towards Kaljevic who sent an inviting cross into the six-yard box but Bueno's close-range flick drew a smart save from Azzopardi.
Bueno made amends 11 minutes into the second half. Latching on to an excellent through-ball from Kaljevic, the Brazilian rfaced past Azzopardi and deposited the ball into the net.
Naxxar might have equalised midway into the second half. Gilmar lofted the ball towards the far post from a free-kick and Reano's low cross caused a goalmouth melee with the Mosta defence blocking shots from Andrew Scicluna and Del Negro.
Kaljevic should have sealed the points for Mosta but his shot from close distance came off the side-wrigging after the towering striker had sidestepped two defenders in the box.
Naxxar equalised in stoppage time. Uchenna Emenike's cross from the left sparked a scramble and substitute Terence Vella guided the ball into the net.
Kaljevic, the Mosta striker, was named BOV player of the match.
