Birkirkara St Joseph triathlete Graham Borg has completed his second Ironman triathlon in Copenhagen, achieving a personal best after improving last year’s finishing time by 44 minutes.

Dubbed as the most spectacular race course in the world, this Ironman in Denmark attracted almost 3,000 triathletes with 50 qualifying slots for the 2015 Ironman World Championships up for grabs.

Borg covered the first segment of the race, a 3.8-kilometre swim at Amager Strandpark, in 54 minutes.

The 180km bike segment led triathletes out of Amager, into the inner streets of Copenhagen and out to the surrounding countryside.

The Birkirkara triathlete completed the two-loop route in five hours, and five minutes. The ensuing 42.2km marathon was held over four loops around the city centre.

Borg ran the distance in three hours and 50 seconds for an aggregate time of 10 hours and 56 seconds.

His next international commitment will be on September 28 when Borg will compete in the Palermo Olympic Distance Triathlon.

This will be followed by another Ironman on November 30 in Cozumel, Mexico, where 2,500 triathletes are expected to take part.

The Saints’ triathlete is sponsored by Western Union Business Solutions, www.cfragrances.com, MZ Investment Services and http://Maltanutrition.com .
