We refer to Stephen Zerafa’s letter that was entitled ‘Expensive Ferry to Sicily’ (August 27).
Zerafa gives the impression that he paid €433 for two adults and a car for a return voyage between Malta and Sicily on the Virtu Ferries vessel. The truth is he paid €257.
He also failed to mention that the fares he quoted for other ferry companies on various overseas routes are for conventional ferries not high speed craft. Had he wished, he would have also mentioned that these ferry companies benefit from the economies of scale and, in any case, not once this year has he paid a higher fare when travelling with Virtu Ferries than the misquoted fares he attributed to the overseas ferry companies.
Like all those who choose to make use of our service, the correspondent is most welcome to do so. What is not acceptable is publishing blatant misinformation.
Virtu Ferries offers a state-of-the-art service which is not subsidised by the State and does not enjoy a monopoly.
