Our mayor, Alfred Grixti (a friend I amicably criticise), has a very selective eye for detail.

In his piece entitled ‘Beyond the ‘R’’’ (September 4), he pointed out that he purposely left the ‘R’ missing on Dun Karm’s monument in Sciortino Street, Żebbuġ for two years to see whether the residents would notice such act of vandalism.

I cannot but agree that we should be ashamed of such un-civic acts. However, I really hope that our mayor is also doing the same for the electricity and services wires hanging all over the village and especially concentrated in the oldest parts of the locality where I hail from. In that case I wanted to publicly inform him that I have noticed these and have spoken to him about them numerous times. Therefore, he can now take the necessary action with the relevant bodies to get them sorted out properly, turning the area from the Favelas into another Mdina.
