The stunning bronze sculpture by Antonio Sciortino, Speed, and its plaster cast are on display at the Auberge D’Italie in Valletta until the end of October.

Culture Minister Owen Bonnici explained that the piece, recently bought by Heritage Malta for €163,000, was a commemorative gift to the National Collection to mark the 50th anniversary of Independence Day, 40th anniversary of Republic Day, 35th anniversary of Freedom Day and 10th anniversary of EU membership.

Dr Bonnici said the government was very proud to acquire the piece. “We already own Sciortino pieces and this will be adding to the collection”.

He also announced that the government was working on amending the law on preserving cultural heritage and asked the public to send in their feedback and suggestions to the ministry.
