Some organisations have voiced concern over the heavy cost the Labour government has incurred by employing 2,000 new recruits in the civil service in such a short time after the election.

Why the big fuss? We’re still far away from the pheno-menal figure of 8,000 people enrolled with the government during the administration of Prime Minister Karmenu Mifsud Bonnici.

After all, promises are promises and are meant to be kept – €20 million is peanuts for Prime Minister Joseph Muscat and Finance Minister Edward Scicluna.

Our country can afford such a huge deficit; we are selling passports to foreign millionaires, so why worry?
