This year’s edition of Għarb Day, organised by the local council, was celebrated with a thanksgiving Mass at Għarb parish church followed by an evening of entertainment in the village’s Pjazza Żjara tal-Madonna.

The evening started with mayor David Apap Agius, council members and representatives of local NGOs laying wreaths at the monument dedicated to Bishop Michael Molina and the playing of the official Għarb anthem.

This was followed by musical performances by the Visitation Band, the reading of poems and singing and dancing by students trained by the Għarb Stage Christophers during a summer camp.

The mayor presented this year’s Qlub Ġenerużi award to Maria Mizzi for her generosity in particular towards Dar tal-Providenza, the Volontarjat Lokali award to Joseph Farrugia for his voluntary work in the locality, the Għarb Gozitan cultural award to Elaine Haber for her singing talent and success achieved and the Għarb Award to Consiglia Azzopardi for her national and international accomplishments in lacemaking.

Apap Agius later officially opened a second war shelter found in the square and which was restored as part of a project financed by the EU Rural Development Fund.
