Going back to school after many long weeks of summer holidays is always accompanied by a mix of feelings. The forward-looking sentiment of rejoining school mates, the idea of opening new books and perhaps starting new subjects, is mixed with a poignant nostalgia of summer fun, flip-flops, swimming and late mornings. Alison Bezzina asked a few children and teens how they feel about returning to school this October.

Going to the One Direction concert in Dublin which was epic, spending a day with my friends at Splash and Fun and going to the village feast.

Are you looking forward to starting school again?

Well, no, I’m not looking forward to school because I’m not ready for all the homework and studying.

What do you love most about school?

The outings, learning different stuff and meeting friends.

What don’t you like about school?

Waking up early.

Abhi Sah Frendo, 11, attends Stella Maris College (Form 2)

Favourite Subjects: Science, environmental studies and English literature.

Visiting the Snow Dome in Tamworth, succeeding in a maze in Exeter and going to Cardiff to see the Dr Who Experience.

Are you looking forward to starting school again?

Yes because I would like to see my friends again.

What do you love most about school?

The library, the science lab and the PSD room.

What don’t you like about school?

The playground, assembly and the winter track suit.

Rajeev Sah Frendo, 6, attends Stella Maris School (Grade 3)

Learning how to play monopoly, going on holiday to England and visiting the Dr Who experience, snowboarding and swimming at the beach and in pools.

So and so, because it takes too long. But I do enjoy studying at school.

What do you love most about school?

Break time.

What don’t you like about school?

Bullies and bad friends.

Katrina Bonello, 10, attends Saint Monica School (Grade 6)

Best and most memorable moments from this summer: Going to Gozo with my family, seeing my cousins and baking sweet treats.

Yes, I am looking forward to school because I wish to start my lessons and see my friends.

What do you love most about school?

I like the staff and students the most at my school.

What don’t you like about school?

The short lunch breaks.

Doing the ice bucket challenge, going abroad, meeting up with all my friends and having a sleepover.

Are you looking forward to starting school again?

Yes, because I am going to start three new subjects and because it is a different routine to summer.

What do you love most about school?

Meeting my friends everyday and learning something new for everyday life and even as general knowledge.

What don’t you like about school?

The uniform and that sometimes teachers give too much homework.

Craig Bonello, 14, attends St Aloysius College (Form 4)

Favourite subjects: Chemistry and physics.

Best and most memorable moments from this summer: When Germany won the World Cup, my birthday in July (day spent with my friends and then dinner with family in the evening) and swimming at my favourite beach in Gozo.

Yes, mostly because it is so much fun to meet my friends again.

What do you love most about school?

Being with my friends, sports and learning new things.

What don’t you like about school?

Annoying teachers.

When my mum took me to a hotel and when we went swimming at Għadira.

No because I have to wake up early.

What do you love most about school?

To meet my friends.

What don’t you like about school?

Homework.

Neil Fitzpatrick, 13, attends St Martin’s College (Form 3)

Favourite subjects: History, graphic design and science.

Aviation school, playing football and sleepovers.

Are you looking forward to starting school again?

I would say yes and no. I would say yes if it was not for all the homework I get.

What do you love most about school?

Football and my history lessons.

What don’t you like about school?

Exams.
