Nadur Youngsters began the 2014/15 season on a bright note after beating Oratory Youths 2-1 in the final of the GFA Division One Knock-Out competition.

On their way to the final, Nadur had the better of Victoria Hotspurs 2-1 and holders Kerċem Ajax 1-0.

Oratory obtained a 1-0 victory over Sannat Lions in the first round and then saw off champions Xewkija Tigers with a goal in each half in the semi-finals.

Nadur were made to fight hard for their win as Oratory maintained the positive form shown in the previous KO matches.

The Youths were the better side in the first half.

They opened the scoring on 18 minutes when Darko Stojanovic tapped the ball home from close range.

Shaun Attard twice went close to increasing Oratory’s lead but his drive hit the base of the post and his second attempt was blocked by goalkeeper Mark Grima.

Nadur, who had Claudio Antunes and Joseph Vella missing due to injury, staged a bold reaction after the change of ends.

New signing Ramon Dos Santos hit just wide and Joseph Grima also went close to levelling matters for Nadur.

Two goals in a three-minute spell turned the game in Nadur’s favour.

On 71 minutes, Charles Mercieca netted with a low shot from a cross by Brian Meilak and, three minutes later, Milos Stojanovic scored a fine goal from a free-kick to seal Nadur’s win.

At the end of the match, Alvin Grech and Joe Bajada, the president and general secretary of the Gozo FA respectively, presented the KO trophy and medals to the Nadur players and coaching staff.
